5 out of 5 stars Sharp product   July 30, 2010

I have bought 3 sets all are excellent and I would highly recommend this knife set. One was a gift and they are very satisfied with the set. I bought a second set just for the extra knives. This is the only knife set I would buy.

5 out of 5 stars Great Knives!   July 20, 2010
Linenspa
Before buying these we spent a more for what we thought was supposed to be a really quality set. They ended up rusting within a week. We returned those and purchased these. We have used these knives regularly and haven't had any complaints. They haven't rusted and we like the durability of these. The only downfall is that they don't come in a block and so you have to make room in a drawer somewhere where kids can't get them. These are a great product at a great price. We would totally recommend them!

5 out of 5 stars Great knives for the money   July 18, 2010
David A. Franklin (Indianapolis, IN USA)
I bought my first set of these about 3 years ago. I love the larger knives but the small steak knives are my favorite. A couple of years ago my Mom was in town and they were selling these at Kohls of about $10.00 a set. Like a fool, I didn't buy any but my Mom got four sets. She did give me 4 of the steak knives, so I have a set of 8.

Now I need to get my daughter a set because the knife set she had couldn't cut butter. So here I am online looking and found that Amazon has a set.

I love this knife set. All of the large knives are very good and while the plastic handles are cheap, they have held up to hundreds of dish washings. They can cut the thinnest slices of any vegetables and the meat cleaver had cut through frozen meat like a hot knife through butter.

If you are looking for a set of kitchen knives that are fool proof, get this one!

3 out of 5 stars Not terrible, but a chef's knife will do you better.   May 26, 2010
Michael Sieber (Ohio)
Miracle Blade III

Cooking is my hobby and I really enjoy trying out new tools even though I always come back to the simple basics that I've been using for a long time like my trusty chef's knife. Still, sometimes something gets in my head and I just have to try it out even though I know that I'm probably going to be disappointed.

Going in, I pretty much knew that the Miracle Blade knives probably weren't going to be as good as advertised on TV, but I had to admit that -- even though these were cheap knives -- someone had gone through the trouble to put some thought into them. There are some interesting ideas going on here; I'm not saying they're good ideas, but I admire the fact that someone was thinking a bit out of the box with these knives.

The two knives that really caught my eye were the Rock 'N Chop and the Chop 'N Scoop. Both have that control ball for better handling that I really wanted try, and the Rock 'N Chop employs a very radical design that on the surface makes the knife seem extremely versatile.

And honestly, if you're buying the Miracle Blade knives, you're primarily buying the set specifically for those two knives plus the slicer as there's nothing at all radical about the cheapo kitchen shears, paring knife or steak knives that are included.

The most famous knife in this set is the All-Purpose Slicer. This is the knife that Chef Tony uses to demonstrate how much abuse it can take while still remaining razor sharp. I didn't try to cut concrete with the knife, but I did cut bread and some tomatoes, and found the knife to be very sharp out of the box and it sliced very well. Even though this knife was made from cheaper steel, it still felt fairly heavy and solid. Because this is a serrated blade, it's naturally going to seem sharper over a longer period of time than a non-serrated blade. Whether in a year or two it'll still be as sharp as when I pulled it out of the box remains to be seen, but somehow I doubt it. Still, it's not a terrible knife.

To me, the Rock 'N Chop is the most interesting piece in the set because of its unique design and control ball that's supposed to facilitate a better grip for chopping vegetables. This is the knife I was really excited to try and the one that turned out to be the biggest disappointment.

The Rock 'N Chop -- like the Slicer -- is also fairly heavy. It's very well-balanced and feels very comfortable regardless of whether you're holding it by the handle or using the control ball. Also, like the slicer, it was very sharp out of the box. The biggest problem with this knife is that it tries to be good at too many tasks when it would've been better served being exceptional at one.

The blade has a serrated edge in the middle and a standard edge on either end, which supposedly makes this knife ideal for slicing and chopping. However, because you have to use a particular spot on the blade for whatever task you're attempting, you end up taking longer than you would have had you used a knife specific to what you're trying to do. Basically, there's nothing this knife can do that you couldn't accomplish faster and more efficiently with a good chef's knife.

For example: If you want to slice up peppers you have to use the rear of blade. If you're used to using a chef's knife for this task, the Rock 'N Chop is going to seem counterintuitive because you have to focus -- unnaturally -- on using the rear portion of the blade. It's very tough to get into a good rhythm like you can with a good chef's knife. Still, it's not a terrible knife and, as stated, is an interesting idea. I've thought that if a company like Henckels was given permission to make their own version of this knife that it might actually be a must-have product.

The Chop 'N Scoop was the second knife that I was really interested in, again, because of that funky control ball, and the fact that it looked like a miniature cleaver. Unlike the previous two knives, this one is very light and feels very cheap. It's really just a piece of thin -- read, very thin -- sheet metal with an edge. Still, it was very sharp out of the box and did an admirable job chopping herbs. I really wouldn't recommend this for anything other than herbs because it is so flimsy. Both the Rock 'N Chop and Chop 'N Scoop felt very comfortable and well-balanced while holding them with the control ball.

The other knives in the set, ie., the paring knife, the steak knives, and the fillet knife are all pretty standard fare and not particularly noteworthy.

While I've only had these knives for a few weeks now, I haven't noticed any rusting as some other reviewers have mentioned. I will say that I only hand wash all of my knives and immediately towel them dry and store them in wood knife blocks.

The bottom line is that, while these aren't by any means horrible knives, you're really going to be much better off if you get, and learn to use, a decent quality chef's knife; there's virtually nothing you can't do with one of those. Throw in a serrated bread knife and a small utility knife and your cutlery collection will be virtually complete.

This is a product that I have seen advertised on TV for a long time. It lives up to its claim 100%. I am very satisfied with the quality and the price.
